This magnificent detached country house, built in 1862 is set in a most enviable position amongst beautiful woodlands on High Lindeth Fell just a mile from Bowness-on-Windermere. The country house has been refurbished to a very high standard and is set in its own grounds with beautiful southerly and westerly views of the Lakeland fells.

The grounds afford all visitors peace and relaxation, with mature trees, firs, bracken and the surrounding fells all on display. This is a great place for family and friends to get away from it all, enjoy the beautiful surroundings and the very special qualities of this premier holiday home.

The Oaks was completely renovated in 2017, with no expense spared in re-creating the past glories of this exceptional imposing property. There are modern installations throughout and a wonderful blend of the original features, such as the beautiful main staircase, the mullioned windows and the old pantry, seamlessly integrated with more modern and contemporary styling.

A well thought out layout provides something for everyone, a main leisure suite offers a great place to relax and unwind with a lovely seating area boasting pleasant views, pool table and a fabulous sauna to soak away the aches and pains. Outside, the property has a private elevated patio area with two hot tubs that provide the perfect location to sit, relax and take in the beautiful surroundings.

An outstanding house that delivers in every way. The facilities were superb, there was barely anything missing that you could wish for Maybe a couple of Air Fryers, cleanliness was second to none, the grounds were outstanding and the staff were extremely helpful. We had the house full of people and not at any time did it feel like there wasn't enough space, a really relaxing place to stay. Would highly recommend and we look forward to staying there again soon.

Absolutely amazing house with incredible views, facilities and staff. We have just returned from a 7 day break at this property. We had a group of 25 made up of 12 adults and 13 kids age range 111. The house is fantastic. The grounds and gardens are stunning. The view over the hills is amazing. It really has everything you need for a big group. There are 4 separate lounge areas with several TVs which came in very handy with kids. Some of the TVs have sky too so ideal for watching the golf and cricket while we were there. The house was able to accommodate everyone without ever feeling busy or on top of each other. There is pretty much a bathroom or ensuite for each bedroom. The shower water pressure is excellent. The kitchen is great. Huge open space with 4 ovens and 4 dishwashers. The ice machine was a hit too on the hot days. The facilities are first class the sauna and 2 hot tubs are perfect. There is a pool table too. I asked everyone for their feedback before we left and genuinely nobody had a bad word to say about anything. We would 100 recommend to anyone who is thinking of staying here. Finally the communication from the management team on site is excellent. Thank you to Sarah and Jo for their help with everything. We will be back soon as soon as we can find a date suitable for all 25 of us!

A wonderful place! Spacious and somehow cosy. The two hot tubs were excellent for adults and the children. Excellent catering suggested and provided for three days. We were 25 people ranging from 10 months to 74years of age and we had travelled from around the world to be together as a family. The oaks gave us exactly what we didnt know we needed. This property was outstanding, 20 adults and 2 kids, all catered for perfectly, we moved the dining area to the room with the pool table, made more of a square table and it worked better for us, we obviously put it back after.

This is a stunning property for a large family group. Appointed to a very high standard. Fantastic kitchen facilities. A wonderful mix of space to be together and also corners to retire too. The beautiful views were a bonus. Highly recommend.

The Oaks is a beautiful house, 18 of us stayed and it catered for all of our needs. The photos were what drew us to book the house, however, even these do not do the house justice. It is immaculately clean, we had everything we needed and the hot tubs and sauna were a real treat! The showers were hot despite the number of us using them at the same time. The location is wonderful just a short walk into Windermere with some beautiful tracks for us to explore the nearby hillsviewpoints. The views from the house were beautiful too. This is a very special property. We held a 50th birthday party here over a week in November and had a spectacular time. The house has every comfort imaginable and the sauna, hot tubs and pool table were particularly popular! The huge kitchen was a focal point so well equipped and so many dishwashers, cookers, kettles etc. A number of people commented on how comfortable the beds were. Spotlessly clean. Well done to Sarah and the team they could not have been more helpful!

The Oaks Country House was perfect for our family holiday. We numbered 21, and were 3 generations from 3 continents UK, USA and Australia. The house is very well equipped, furnished, clean, spacious, and obviously well cared for by the managers. It has a fabulous kitchen area with everything youd need. Communication was excellent and the welcome much appreciated. There was room for everyone, the leisure area was well used, as was the dining room, which easily accommodated our party. We were able to easily access walks and Lake District tourist spots by car and foot. We'd highly recommend a stay here.

What a wonderful place! Everything wonderful, magical and sparkling. We hired for a large group celebrating our friends wedding and it fit the bill and more. Could not have asked for a better location spot the deer! and for so many people in one place we all could find a quiet spot or a noisy one depending on what you wanted. The facilities were great with a cleaner coming each day of our hire to clean the hot tubs, so many ovens, plenty of plates and utensils. Could have done with more mugs and tall glasses but Im now being picky. We loved it and so pleased to have been able to have the privilege to have stayed.

The house was even better than the pictures on the website. It was a perfect location, the owner had thought of everything and we did not want for anything. The local information provided by the owner was really useful. The hot tub maintenance during our stay was excellent. We would definitely recommend the property.

The property is fantastic with great facilities and great location. We were a family gathering of 24 people yet there was enough space to always find a quiet sitting room or to gather togeher as a large group. The well equipped kitchen and dining facilities mean that we could prepare meals and enjoy them together. The hot tubs were wonderful. If anyone is looking for a large property for a luxury holiday with familyfriends then we can highly recommend.

The Oaks exceeded our expectations. My extended family 12 of us stayed a week and enjoyed the spacious accommodations 12 rooms, large kitchen 3 refrigerators and 3 dish washers and large dining area seating for 32 with views of rolling hills and grazing sheep. Multiples sitting rooms and places to watch tv, play games and read were also appreciated. Very memorable week in an exceptional property!

We really enjoyed our stay at The Oaks. We are a big group and have stayed at many properties across the UK. This is the best property we have stayed at!

This was a perfect venue for a family event to celebrate my husband's 75th birthday. All our guests loved the house and there was something for everyone from the youngest of our grandchildren aged 6 to the more mature guests. The grounds and views are wonderful and there were plenty of local walks to suit all abilities. The house is a convenient 20 minute walk away from Bowness and all its facilities. The manager of the site was also very helpful.

We all had a great time and will be booking the Oaks again when an anniversary such as our recent Diamond Wedding comes around. The staff at the Oaks were very helpful when we arrived for the start of our holiday. And I will certainly recommend the Oaks to the people I know. In the future. Thank you.

Another excellent stay at The Oaks. We stayed over the weekend for a friend's surprise 60th birthday and we had a fabulous time. The house is extremely comfortable and well equipped. All the rooms are nicely decorated and there are lots of communal spaces too. The two hot tubs were a big hit as was the sauna. We have talked about making it an annual trip.

The property was beautiful, had everything you could think of and was perfect for our group stay. The view out of the back of the property was superb, great to look at whilst sat in the jacuzzi! The location was great it? it was only a short walk into Bowness. Would highly recommend the property to anyone for a large group stay. There was a small issue with the WiFi and not all the guests were able to access it. This was not a huge issue though.

An excellent property in which the photos don't do it justice and its better in real life. A few issues cropped up during the week which you would expect for a property of this size but all issues were dealt with efficiently. Should we need a property of this size again then we will be back.

A wonderful place to have a large family reunion. The children and the grandchildren enjoyed the hot tubs until the weather got so hot that they were not so inviting. The large garden, with shade, was an added bonus. Sarah Johnson was very helpful with our enquiries re bike store and internet, it turned out we should have been logging into Oaks Guest I think not The Oaks.

Just back from a wonderful weekend break at The Oaks. The house & facilities exceeded our expectations. We were a group of 24, the house was perfect. Lots of lounges to relax in but it seemed we spent sent most of our time in the fabulous kitchen! The wonderful weather meant we took full advantage of the terrace, hot tubs & spectacular view. The communication & updates from the management of house was excellent. They met us on our arrival to make sure we were happy which we certainly were. It was truly a very special weekend for us all.

Excellent accommodation. Cleanliness was to a high standard. All the facilities are fabulous. The view to the back of the house is just beautiful. We saw deer, hares, foxes, birds of prey and pheasants. The hot tubs and saunas are an added bonus and were used a lot during our stay. The beds are extremely comfortable. The living areas were spacious and well decorated. All in all a fantastic stay.

Absolutely brilliant, everything thought of and more than enough utensils and washing items. So much space we were 19, as some dropped out at last minute and it sleeps 24, noone disturbed anyone, just bodies floating round as they went about their business!! Quiet areas, kitchen sofas, 'games' room etc. Great for chilling, even with the Lake District weather, or being busy with activities, even goal posts for a knock about. We wish we could have stopped longer. Wonderful staff and customer care. I have emailed with 'suggestions' for little tweeks and possible hand rails for disabled access from disabled room to top lounge but we managed nevertheless. Would highly recommend and certainly go back.

Our Group of 17 persons have had weekend celebrations together on four occasions in the past. This one was the bestwe liked the Oaks because the kitchen facilities were the best weve had, the bedrooms were of a very high standard and the location by Lake Windermere was excellent.

The pictures on the website do not do justice to the property. The provision of essentials like teacoffee dishwasher tablets were invaluable due to our late arrival time. The views are magnificient, the area so peaceful, it was just the perfect location for our family gettogether. I would and already have recommend this property to anybody.

We absolutely loved our stay at the oaks cottage, it was better than expected. .very spacious and clean, had all the facilities required..

The Oaks was better than expected. A beautiful property with plenty of room for a large group. Multiple living spaces so plenty of room to space out. Multiple ovens and dishwashers really helped when cooking for a large group. Has every appliance you would need for a a self catering holiday. We got some nice weather so could take advantage of the outdoor seating and garden, again plenty of space to play games or relax soaking up the sun. Not that it was an issue but some previous places I have stayed have things like cooking oilsprays etc but there wasnt anything like that so just make sure you bring everything you would need. Not sure if that is because of COVID. Also not a lot of toilet roll. Walking into Bowness was only a 1015 min walk once we found the quickest route. Cross straight over the road at the bottom of the drive. Would definitely stay there again.

Rydal Mount & Gardens are wonderfully situated between Lake Windermere and Rydal Water offering breathtaking scenery. The home of William Wordsworth from 1813 - 1850 the grand home is now lived in by the poets descendents but parts of the house and grounds are open to the public. Why not take a guided tour and see the rooms where many of the famous poems were written. The gardens are beautiful at all times of the year but in the summer offer a spectacular display of colour. There is also a gallery and a tearoom. Discounts are available for group bookings.

Lakeland Wildlife Oasis - LA6 1JH

about 12 Miles

Located in the Milnthorpe area of Cumbria we love this local attraction. With an eclectic mix of fascinating wildlife and hands on displays this centre is educational as well as fun. You can wander around at leisure admiring the exhibits which range from chameleons to computers. Some of the most threatened species are kept at the park as part if international breeding programmes. Check out their website for the latest opening times and admission costs which are great value for money. There are discounts for pre-booked parties of 12 or more.

Ullswater Steamers - CA11 0US

about 13 Miles

This is an award winning Lake District attraction and they have been operating cruisers on Lake Ullswater for over 150 years. There is no better way to explore the lakes than on water and you could even combine a cruise with a spectacular walk. For great days out in this region then this attraction is highly recommended and will appeal to couples as well as families. Corporate groups are also well catered for.

South Lakes Safari Zoo - LA12 0LU

about 16 Miles

This is an amazing Cumbria attraction well known locally as well as nationally for how close you can get to the animals. Described as the most interactive animal park in Europe it's well worth a visit if you are staying in the area. Open from April to end October some of the highlights are the tigers, penguins, bears, hippos and rhinos. At 2pm during certain seasons it's feeding time so don't forget to plan your day around this so you can watch the animals enjoying their feed. Look out for seasonal events such as Halloween Zoo Boo (free entry for kids in fancy dress) and The Magic of Christmas.

Happy Mount Park has attractions for the whole family including several play areas, a miniature railway, crazy golf, putting green and trampolines, there is also a paddling pool where the little ones can splash around in the summer and a café where the adults can relax with a drink.
