We had an amazing stay the house was spotless and the perfect location

We have just returned from an absolutely fantastic stay at Oakdene Country House. What an outstanding property, everything was perfect and the location was stunning. We were a party of 17 adults, 4 children and a baby. The house is decorated and equipped to a very high standard. We have stayed in many properties all over the world but Oakdene is by far the best. The owners Chris and Sally had decorated the house for Christmas and it looked perfect. Having 3 ovens, 2 dishwashers, 2 large food fridges and 2 wine fridges certainly accommodated our large party. There was no dispute about bedrooms due to them all being equally as nice, with lovely en suite bathrooms. The decor throughout was neutral and the furnishings of a high standard and very tasteful.The children entertained themselves in the cinema room, which was great and they enjoyed the hot tubs. The sweeping staircase was a perfect backdrop to my partners big birthday celebration. We walked into Sedbergh by the river on quite a few occasions, which was lovely. I cannot rate this property highly enough A big thank you to Chris and Sally for making our stay so memorable.

This was an amazing property. It was kitted out with everything you needed and more! Chris was super helpful and welcoming. Every room was beautiful and clean. The location was great, short walk into town. The views were amazing, especially from the hot tubs!

This is a lovely house in a beautiful setting with some great pubs not far away. We were a party of 21 and used most of the facilities and would recommend it strongly. The house is beautifully decorated to a high spec. The bedrooms have good quality bedlinen and towels and everywhere was clean and warm. Almost all of the bedrooms are ensuite with a stunning annexe bathroom. We had some mobility issues within our group which were not an issue here and the owners were very helpful with any queries. The kitchen has full facilities although I might request serving spoons and a small pan on rebooking which I plan to do.

We have stayed at many holiday cottages and I can honestly say that Oakdene has been one of, if not the best weve ever been to. The setting, the decor, the attention to detail, the facilities, the views, none of it can be faulted. This is honestly an amazing place, its even more luxurious than in the photos and its located in a relatively unvisited but beautiful part of the Yorkshire dales. Chris is an excellent host who not only gave us lots of useful tips about the area but also arranged a brilliant clay pigeon shoot! Cant wait to visit again!

Simply the loveliest of holiday accommodation. We were a family of eleven adults & seven children aged eight weeks to 70 & never felt cramped as so much space . Top notch furnishings & figments , spotlessly clean throughout . Amazing views from almost every room . We enjoyed the hot tubs , cinema room & games room but it was also so nice for adults to have the peace & quiet occasionally of the beautiful morning room . The place is all even more gorgeous than the photos & we all loved it . Sedbergh is a super village , we enjoyed county cricket , street fair , fete & pub lunches there . There is a large Spar for essentials in Sedbergh . The property is peaceful as set far back from the road . It is the perfect location for exploring Cumbria & the Yorkshire Dales . We would have no hesitation in recommending Oakdene & shall hope to all return there . You will not be disappointed, its perfect . Thank you Chris & Sally very much .

The property was superb. Everything was just as you would want it to be in a house for a large gathering. The interior feel of the house is modern and elegant. The kitchen is fully equipped and all bedrooms are comfortable with well designed ensuite facilities. WiFi is fast and stable, even with multiple users connected. Good professional approach to the whole booking by the owner.

We booked this property for a family break. We had 3 generations stay and the cottage was loved by all. There was ample space for all our little groups to entertain themselves and also to come together. The place was exceptionally clean when we arrived and the facilities were brilliant. Chris greeted us when we arrived and he went above and beyond. We had ordered groceries to the house for when we arrived, but unfortunately we were caught up in traffic. He received the delivery and even packed everything away for us, without us having to ask! He showed us around the cottage and was available for any issues we had during our stay. We could not recommend him as a host or the cottage as a fantastic place to stay. We would love to stay here again.

Absolutely perfect weekend! We stayed at Oakdene for my 40th birthday celebrations! The whole family came! The house was ideal and even better than the photos if thats possible! Ages ranged from 3 months to 60 years old and everyone loved it! The perfect spot for a group get together! We are hoping to make it an annual trip

We had another great holiday at Oakdene Country House. I would definitely recommend the house as a holiday destination for a large group. It is clean, comfortable, very well equipped and everything works. The games room was a great hit with the children and the two lounges offered welcoming space for the adults. Beds too were really comfortable. A lovely area to stay in and not as busy as the Lakes. An ideal holiday destination.

Group of 21 adults for a 60th birthday celebration week. All the rooms were spacious and the attention to detail in the dcor and comfort was outstanding. Kitchen was well equipped with everything you could want. The outdoor hot tubs now with cover were well received by all. The house itself was lovely with plenty of spaces you could hide away and quietly read a book if required. All the bedrooms were large with ensuite apart from annex bedroom of 4 that boasted a HUGE bathroom. Amazing views from all windows overlooking the fields and countryside. Bonus points for lambing ewes right outside. Fairfield Mill right on doorstep which is well worth a visit. Sedbergh Golf Course was well received by our lady golfers. Don't forget your walking shoes if you decide to go for a walk into the village some parts can be muddy. Outstanding trip and loads to do in nearby surrounds. Will definitely recommend and would love to return.

Everything you would need is at hand. The house was spotless. There was no fight for the best bedroom as all of them were fabulous. Absolutely fantastic stay at Oakdene country house! The views are nothing short of amazing, herds of sheep just metres from your window in the surrounding fields. The house itself is out of this world, the space, facilities And decor is unmatched. We were A party of 18 adults and 6 children and it was more than we could have imagined. The day after coming home we booked up again for next year! Chris was always thorough in making sure we knew he was on hand for any issues or questions, and he certainly was! I dont think we will find anywhere that matches this property and cant wait to be back!

Oakdene's setting in the countryside, the quietness and solitude apart from some sheep, was completely what we were looking for though we could, and did, walk into Sedbergh a few times. Our group of 17 had a fantastic stay at Oakdene and would thoroughly recommend to other large groups looking to hire a holiday home. Chris the owner had been very helpful and accommodating with our questions and requests prior to arrival and he was also there to meet us on check in to give us a tour and show us how the appliances worked. All 11 bedrooms were very comfortable and well appointed to a very high standard and the bathrooms were all very modern with great showers. The kitchen was fantastic plenty of oven and hob space and very well equipped to be able to cook for such a large group. There was also ample fridge and freezer space. The kitchen had been well designed and thought out. Our group also enjoyed having the two hot tubs and had lots of fun in the games room. The snooker table was a great bonus. We had a minor problem with one hot tub and Chris was available to come over and resolve it very quickly. Overall this was a fantastic home for our group we had a lovely week and would love to return in the future. We wouldnt hesitate to recommend this holiday home thanks Chris for a great week!

We stayed at oakdene for my and my husbands 20th anniversary in august 2021 with all the family we highly recommend this place 'as the owners were very accommodating and helpful and couldn't do enough for us ' it is a very modern and clean large house with breathtaking views from every window 'the facilities were amazing ' we spent many nights in the hot tubs and kids all enjoyed the snooker room which was so big 'the beds were so comfortable and spacious ' we all had the best nights sleep ' it was very handy having the 3 ovens as we catered for large amount of people 'there was more than enough utensils ' nothing was unmissed 'they had thought of everything 'this house was in the ideal location for great walks and trips to the lake district 'everyone in our group really enjoyed the stay and commented on how beautiful it was and would highly recommend this place 'as you will not be disappointed and we definitely love to go back thanks cilla and mark

The house is immaculate and has been beautifully decorated. The beds were all extremely comfortable and the house is full of lots of thoughtful touches such as blankets in the lounges. Every window has an amazing view out of it and the house is next door to the amazing Far Fields Mill. Cant recommend the property highly enough our group of 18 friends had a wonderful stay and will definitely be back!

Well what can I say, the house is absolutely amazing! Every little detail, the decor, the way the rooms are set out, the equipment and crockerycutlery in the kitchen, the bedrooms, the lighting, everything has been so well thought out. It is just gorgeous. We stayed for 3 nights, 23 ladies, and we had a truly wonderful time! We had a personal chef, he had no issues with the kitchen, and this was just brilliant! The hot tubs are massive, the games room downstairs is just lovely and Chris and Sally the owners goes above and beyond to make sure your stay is the best. Every little detail is covered! We all loved every minute and we have booked for next year. I would absolutely recommend staying in this house!

The house was wonderful, every detail had been thought of and Chris & Sally were on hand throughout our stay. We really appreciated all the little touches. The kitchen has all appliances, the hot tubs were clean and well looked after, bedrooms comfortable and the location itself is beautiful. The only minor complaint we had is nothing to do with the house or hosts, it's that Sykes themselves are a really difficult company to get a hold of on the phone! Stayed with a group of friends for a 50th birthday celebration. Everything was spot on, the location, the house, the rooms, absolutely faultless. Chris met us on arrival and showed us how everything worked plus was on hand should we have any queries. For one night we wanted a chef to cook for us our group of 20 and Chris recommended Rob Thunder. Rob was excellent and would highly recommend if you wanted your stay to be extra special. Would definitely come again.

An exceptional property location, decor, facilities, and host. We had a great time as a large group. The original features have been well enhanced with a modern twist. The 11 bedrooms have comfy beds with good quality linens. Great ensuites too! The kitchen has two fridges, two kettles and many ovens all handy for a big group with quality crockery. The house was warm, friendly and ideal for what we needed. The games room and hot tubs were a super bonus. If you are thinking of booking it, do it. We would highly recommend.

We used this large property for an academic meeting of 1015 people for a week, and it was perfect for us. There are several large communal rooms, and a patio with BBQ. The property owner was extremely helpful, and the setting is fantastic, with views straight onto the hills we spotted over 50 bird species, including hen harriers and a kingfisher on the pond. The nearby mill and cafe are a great extra resource. The only downside is that the shortest walking route to Sedbergh is via a dangerously fast road with no pavement the owner sensibly advised us to walk to town using a better route via the mill and quiet river footpath, but this takes about twice as long

We had a lovely stay at Oakdene a great place for a large intergenerational family with a number of young children. The house and ground were lovely and in a beautiful setting enhanced by the brilliant weahter. Chris was a friendly host and the check inout information was all very clear and easy.

This house is magnificent. All of our family gathering felt comfortable and at home. It is a beautiful home. The temperature was even throughout the house and the bedrooms were easily varied. There are sufficient rooms for different groups to have separate time whilst all 21 of us dined together in the large kitchendiner. Chris was extremely helpful and only on hand if needed, leaving us to enjoy the facilities, the surrounding countryside and each others company. The facilities were excellent taking the effort out of our stay. All that and with stunning views of hills that are the Yorkshire Dales.

My friends and my partner and I had the best time at Oakdene Country House at the weekend just gone. I arranged a surprise 40th get together with friends for my partner and he absolutely loved it. The house is huge, stunning and spotless, most beds were superking and so comfy. The views were incredible and you could relax in the hotubs, looking out at the beautiful surroundings. There were so many gorgeous little lambs in the fields around us as well as rabbits, so next time I'll definitely have to bring the kids. They would have loved it!! There is a lovely pub we visited just a short walk away, where we had a lovely meal. Chris and Sally the owners are both so lovely and couldn't be more helpful, even before we got there they were on hand to answer any questions, Chris met us there on arrival and ran through everything with us and then they both came to say goodbye at the end of our stay. Their little girl is just adorable too. This has honestly been the best weekend away we've ever had and we will definitely be back, I honestly can't rate Chris and Sally enough or their beautiful country house. If I could give more than 5 stars I definitely would. Thank you both so much for everything and we will see you again soon I'm sure. Cat, Steve and the rest of the group.

Oakdene is truly fabulous. The house itself is stunning with everything and more a large party of friends could ever need. Beds super comfy, the kitchen so well equipped. Cinema room was super comfy and hot tubs perfect after completing a very hilly cycle. A great house for families and friends meeting up and only a short walk from Sedbergh with its pubs serving lovely Sunday lunches. 5 all round

The property was ideal for our family holiday. Everything worked and was to a high specification. It was clean, comfortable and well equipped. The children loved the games room and the cinema room. The owner was helpful and readily available if required. We had a great week and would not hesitate to recommend Oakdene.

Located in the Milnthorpe area of Cumbria we love this local attraction. With an eclectic mix of fascinating wildlife and hands on displays this centre is educational as well as fun. You can wander around at leisure admiring the exhibits which range from chameleons to computers. Some of the most threatened species are kept at the park as part if international breeding programmes. Check out their website for the latest opening times and admission costs which are great value for money. There are discounts for pre-booked parties of 12 or more.

Rydal Mount & Gardens - LA22 9LU

Rydal Mount & Gardens are wonderfully situated between Lake Windermere and Rydal Water offering breathtaking scenery. The home of William Wordsworth from 1813 - 1850 the grand home is now lived in by the poets descendents but parts of the house and grounds are open to the public. Why not take a guided tour and see the rooms where many of the famous poems were written. The gardens are beautiful at all times of the year but in the summer offer a spectacular display of colour. There is also a gallery and a tearoom. Discounts are available for group bookings.

Happy Mount Park has attractions for the whole family including several play areas, a miniature railway, crazy golf, putting green and trampolines, there is also a paddling pool where the little ones can splash around in the summer and a café where the adults can relax with a drink. During the summer months and especially during school holidays live music can often be enjoyed.

There is no better way to explore the lakes than on water and you could even combine a cruise with a spectacular walk. Head for the Bowland Wild Boar park and we don't think you will be disappointed. A popular attraction in Preston there is so much to do for the whole family. From picnics, walks and wildlife to experiencing feeding the animals you are sure to have a memorable day out. Also popular is the kids tractor play area. For rest and relaxation the cafe is ideal serving hot drinks and snacks with a lovely view over the pond and wildlife feeding station. The Forest of Bowland has been declared an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

South Lakes Safari Zoo - LA12 0LU

This is an amazing Cumbria attraction well known locally as well as nationally for how close you can get to the animals. Described as the most interactive animal park in Europe it's well worth a visit if you are staying in the area. Open from April to end October some of the highlights are the tigers, penguins, bears, hippos and rhinos. At 2pm during certain seasons it's feeding time so don't forget to plan your day around this so you can watch the animals enjoying their feed. Look out for seasonal events such as Halloween Zoo Boo (free entry for kids in fancy dress) and The Magic of Christmas.
